institution

Curtin is a world-ranked, global university recognised for industry-connected programs that provide skills for agile careers.

Inspired by the motto ‘Look ever forward’, Curtin has thrived over the past 58 years. Established in Australia in 1967, Curtin has progressed to become a global university with a further five international campuses, in Malaysia, Singapore, Dubai, Mauritius and Sri Lanka. The University also offers tertiary education programs through 90+ partner institutions worldwide, which provides Curtin students with extensive global opportunities.

Curtin’s approach to university education is driven by five core values – integrity, respect, courage, excellence and impact – and is underpinned by a dedication to education and research partnerships that can make a positive difference for people and the planet.

The University’s wide range of respected courses, research strengths, learning facilities and industry partnerships make it a popular choice for students around the world. In particular, Curtin is renowned for immersive learning and simulated work environments to ensure that students can apply professional expertise as soon as they graduate. Testament to that approach, Australia’s most recent survey of employer satisfaction of university graduates placed Curtin graduates first in the nation.

Global renown

With innovative learning facilities, strong industry partnerships and high-impact research programs, Curtin has steered a rapid rise in world rankings. Internationally, the University is particularly respected for its earth sciences and geosciences research and education programs. Reflecting its capabilities in those areas, Curtin leads Australia’s Trailblazer program for Resources Technology and Critical Minerals – areas that occupy key roles in providing research expertise and workforces for energy-transition industries and increasing Australia’s value-adding capabilities. Curtin is regarded highly for innovative sustainability programs, such as the Planet Positive initiative, which are contributing to rising esteem in the areas of architecture and the built environment.

Teaching

Curtin is renowned as a highly connected university, with leading industry partnerships providing industry placements and enhancing the work-integrated learning of its teaching programs. Engineering and energy transition, mining and metallurgy, radio astronomy and planetary science, commerce and health are some of the disciplines with major collaborations that provide industry opportunities for Curtin students.

The University also creates simulated workplaces to help students graduate with practical skills that link directly with industry needs. Facilities include a simulated hospital ward and pharmacy outlet for health science students, a classroom for education students, and a Moot Court at Curtin Law School.

Curtin also has a highly regarded medical school, as well as a business school that is recognised as an elite global business school through multiple international accreditations.

Curtin offers a comprehensive range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs across 10 study areas:

The University also delivers innovative short courses known as Curtin Credentials, designed for professional development and industry education.

Research

Curtin continues to strengthen its research impact, while balancing science and technology research to address industry and societal issues, and research to extend human knowledge.

The University is involved with more than 70 research centres, including the high-profile Space Science and Technology Centre, the Curtin Institute of Radio Astronomy, the Centre for Crop and Disease Management, the Bankwest Curtin Economics Centre and the national Cooperative Research Centre for Future Battery Industries. Other major international collaborations include projects in liver cancer research and hydrogen storage materials, and Curtin leads the Australian Government’s first ‘Trailblazer’ program in resources technology and critical minerals.

Nationally, in the most recent national research assessment, Excellence in Research for Australia, Curtin performed strongly, with 95% of its research areas assessed ‘at or above world-class level’.

The University has dedicated support for translating research outcomes into commercialisation and start-up initiatives. Recent successes include an electrolyser process to produce green hydrogen from untreated water and a device that saves children with chronic ear infections from surgery. The commercialisation team also provides dedicated workshops for both students and staff to develop their entrepreneurial ideas. Complementing those initiatives, Curtin recently launched its Bachelor of Innovation degree, designed for students who aspire to develop novel businesses and products or services.
